Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Mar. 15

Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Mar. 15 – Here are today’s contestants:

– Amy, an attorney from New Orleans, LA, who leads barrooms in song;
– Tracey, a teacher from Cumming, GA, who had bad dreams after riding the Vomit Comet; and
– Peter, a software salesman from Elmhurst, IL, who learned guitar in his 40s and piano in his 50s. Peter is a one-day champ with winnings of $27,400.

Amy found DD3 on the next-to-last clue with the lead and the opportunity to try and put the game away. But she clearly didn’t like the category, only bet $200 and missed, so Amy led into FJ with $17,000 vs. $12,600 for Peter and $11,400 for Tracey.

DD1 – WEBSITES – In 2008 this former editor of Vanity Fair & The New Yorker launched The Daily Beast (Tracey lost $2,000)

DD2 – 80s MUSIC – Him: “Well I knew I was in trouble now my hope of winning sank ’cause I got the Daily Double now & then my mind went blank”(Amy won $2,800 on a true DD.)

DD3 – I AM HUSSEIN – Formerly the Mufti of Tuzla, Husein Kavazovic is the current Grand Mufti of this onetime Yugoslav republic (Amy lost $200)

FJ – EUROPEAN RIVERS – Of the 10 countries the Danube touches, this one is alphabetically last & is the only one that doesn’t end in “y” or “a”

Only Peter was correct on FJ, adding $11,000 to win with $23,600 and a nice two-day total of $51,000. Even though it was an obvious spot for Tracey to make a small bet and hope for her opponents to miss, she bet nearly everything, which would have cost her the game if Peter had been incorrect.

Pavlov: Blue Boy = Gainsborough.

Triple Stumper of the day: in the Hussein category, nobody knew the one who in 2003 had his mouth swabbed for a DNA sample was Saddam Hussein. How quickly they forget.

Judging the writers: A clue called “Come On Eileen” the “first and subsequently last Top 40 hit” by Dexy’s Midnight Runners, true in the U.S., but the group had plenty of hits in the UK and Ireland. Also, I question the use of “subsequently” here, because I don’t think a single item can be subsequent to itself.

Correct Qs:

DD1 – Who is Tina Brown?
DD2 – What is Weird Al Yankovic?
DD3 – What is Bosnia-Herzegovina?
FJ – What (is) Ukraine?
