Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Mar. 8

Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Mar. 8 – Introducing today’s contestants:

– Liz, a communications executive from South Orange, NJ, whose mother won a lot of cash on the original Tic Tac Dough;
– Hannah, a teacher from Stamford, CT, who saved sea turtles; and
– Lane, a business owner from Atlanta, GA, who is fixing his old BMW dream car. Lane is a one-day champ with winnings of $19,198.

In a game that could have gone either way, both Lane and Liz missed opportunities to expand their leads on the DDs each found in DJ. First place was up for grabs late but Liz couldn’t quite overtake Lane, who showed the way into FJ with $10,000 vs. $9,600 for Liz and $6,200 for Hannah.

DD1 – OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST – Gymnast Nadia Comaneci, always a 10 in our book, hailed from here (Hannah won $1,400)

DD2 – WEIRD WORDS – Bedlam was an asylum; Bridewell gave us a generic word for one of these (Lane lost $3,000)

DD3 – MUSIC TERMS – This word for disturbance of regular flow or rhythm as in jazz is from the Greek for “cutting short” (Liz lost $2,000)

FJ – BESTSELLING NOVELS – This 1990 novel made into a blockbuster film says the Hammond Foundation “has spent $17 million on amber”

Everyone was correct on FJ and thanks to the close scores, Lane bet big, adding $9,201 to win with $19,201 for a two-day total of $38,399.

Pavlov: Artistic Chinese dynasty = Ming.

This day in Trebekistan: Upon hearing from Liz about the $50,000 figure her mother won, Alex exclaimed that would be a million and a half today. Not quite, closer to $500,000. Very nice, but not Ken Jennings-level money.

Correct Qs:

DD1 – What is Romania?
DD2 – What is a prison?
DD3 – What is syncopation?
FJ – What is “Jurassic Park”?
