Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Mar. 1 – Today’s contestants are:
– Sarah, a technical writer and manager from Minneapolis, MN, who prepared for the show using the work of “Jeopardy! freaks online”;
– Scott, an editor from Levittown, PA, whose unshaved head is worth $5; and
– Laura, a data analyst from Nashville, TN, whose “victory or death” tattoo is too extreme for Alex. Laura is a one-day champ with winnings of $12,799.
Scott put himself in a tough spot by missing all three DDs, while Laura and Sarah had an excellent duel, with Laura taking first place into FJ at $15,000 vs. $11,600 for Sarah and $4,000 for Scott.
DD1 – HISTORIC TRIOS – As its name suggests, this caravel was the smallest of Columbus’ ships in 1492 (Scott lost $1,000)
DD2 – SUCH NOVEL CHARACTERS – During the French Revolution, Sir Percy Blakeney disguises himself as this hero to rescue the wrongly jailed (Scott lost $3,000)
DD3 – ALIMENTARY SCHOOL – Often changing in shape, this organ contains both cardiac and pyloric sphincters (Scott lost $1,000)
FJ – EUROPEAN ISLANDS – Once known as the Norman Isles, per the British government this group is not “part of the U.K.” and has “never been colonies”
FJ was a Triple Stumper, so if Sarah had trained on wagering strategy as hard as she did on clues, she would have bet less than $3,600 and won the game. Instead, she inexplicably wagered $4,801, the exact amount to force a tie with Laura when she made the standard $8,201 wager.
So for the first time in the show’s history, we had a tiebreaker clue in a regular game, as co-champions in the event of a tie are no longer allowed. The winner would be the first player to signal in with the correct response to this clue:
WAY BACK IN 2017 – Her April decision to call a snap Parliamentary election proved less than brilliant on June 8
Laura got there first to survive with $6,799 and a two-day total of $19,598.
That’s before our time: In the “bra” category, the players couldn’t figure out the first name in the 1966 album title that begins “Color Me” is Barbra.
Judging the writers: They stuck it to board-jumpers in the “Erin” category, as the $400 clue didn’t make a whole lot of sense until the $200 clue was finally revealed.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is the Niña?
DD2 – Who is the Scarlet Pimpernel?
DD3 – What is the stomach?
FJ – What are the Channel Islands?
Tiebreaker – Who is May?
