Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Feb. 19 – Please welcome today’s contestants:
– Florence, a pilot from Brighton, CO, who is a rescue diver along with her husband;
– Kate, from Hoosick Falls, NY, who plays piano and is partial to Sondheim and Webber; and
– Rob, an escalation manager from Edina, MN, who can sing the Alphabet Song backward. Rob is a three-day champ with winnings of $54,299.
Rob didn’t face much competition here, doubling up on DD1 and blowing the game open with correct responses to both DDs in DJ. Rob entered FJ with $21,600 vs. $2,600 for Kate, while diver Florence finished underwater at -$1,200.
DD1 – STICKY STUFF – Shipyards and pillows were good sources for the elements of this 2-part process used to punish and humiliate in colonial times (Rob won $3,600 on a true DD.)
DD2 – TAYLOR MADE – Canvas Converse All-Star sneakers bear the name of this man, an ex-hoopster turned shoe salesman (Rob won $4,000)
DD3 – REGION NAME’S THE SAME – This body of water pops up on region names in Egypt, Eritrea and Sudan (Rob won $4,000)
FJ – THE SUPREME COURT – In the 1966 case of this man, Earl Warren wrote of eliminating “evils in the interrogation process”
Both players finished writing quickly and were correct. Rob bet the maximum non-Clavin amount of $16,399, winning with $37,999 and a four-day total of $92,298.
Movie miscues: Surprsingly, no one got clues about the 1974 Jack Nicholson L.A.-set mystery “Chinatown” or the most memorable demonic possession move of 1973, “The Exorcist”.
Missing the layup: In the “Sticky Stuff” category, after Rob was incorrect with his response of “Super Glue”, his opponents couldn’t come up with “Krazy Glue”.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is tar and feather?
DD2 – Who is Chuck Taylor?
DD3 – What is the Red Sea?
FJ – Who is Miranda?
