Japanese all-woman pop-rock band Scandal released their eighth album, Honey, today. They’ve somehow maintained their popularity from their days as a highly manufactured teenage musical unit handpicked from Osaka vocal and dance school CALESS and given guitars and drums they didn’t know how to play, to a highly-practiced quartet in their late twenties that writes and performs all their own music. On Honey, the band draws less from the bubblegum-pop-meets-hard-rock sound of their earlier work and instead wears their punk rock, dream pop, math rock, and R&B influences on their sleeves.
