Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Feb. 12 – Here are today’s contestants:
– Lindsey, a merchandise planner from Indianapolis, IN, who almost missed her honeymoon and got lectured by a TSA agent;
– Dom, a project manager from Madison, WI, who as a curler is a “broomer Sooner”; and
– Marty, an accountant and voice artist from Arvada, CO, who apparently looks like Dr. Phil. Marty is a two-day champ with winnings of $49,100.
Marty seemed on the verge of putting the game away when he found DD3, but he missed and before long it was a wide-open affair, with Lindsey taking first place on the last clue to lead into FJ with $12,000 Dom.vs. $11,800 for Marty and $11,000 for Dom.
DD1 – THE EXPLORER – In 1880 Pierre de Brazza reached this mighty African river (Marty won $3,000)
DD2 – WORD ORIGINS – Referring to the bright blue of the sky, this color comes from the Persian name for lapis lazuli (Marty won $3,000)
DD3 – WORLD WAR I LITERATURE – Roald Dahl wrote, “constant twitching & jerking & snorting” were all signs of this alliterative disorder (Marty lost $4,000)
FJ – AMERICAN BUSINESS – A 2007 headline said after being ridiculed since the 1950s, it ‘takes its victory lap” & noted the auction of one for $184,000
Only Marty was correct on FJ, adding $5,000 to win with $16,800 and a three-day total of $65,900.
The wagering on FJ was completely bizarre, as Dom gave up his chance to win on a possible Triple Stumper by betting nearly everything. Meanwhile, Marty’s wager required both opponents to miss for him to have a chance, and Lindsey’s bet didn’t cover a double-up by either rival.
The comedy award of the day goes to Dom for thinking Noel Coward had an opinion about “Spamalot”.
DD1 – What is the Congo? DD2 – What is azure? DD3 – What is shell shock? FJ – What is the Edsel?
