Once upon a time, Child’s Play was a fun but flawed little slasher movie about a serial killer-possessed doll trying to kill the mom from 7th Heaven. It spawned a bunch of forgettable sequels, as slasher movies are wont to do, and that seemed to be that.
Then Chucky creator/writer/sometimes director Don Mancini (when not busy as a writer/producer on Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal and Nick Antosca’s Channel Zero) started pumping out extremely well-received straight-to-video Chucky movies.
Now comes word that Mancini’s continuation of the storyline that began in Curse of Chucky (2013) and was furthered in Cult of Chucky (2017) will now continue in an 8-part, hour-long miniseries. Brad Dourif will once again provide the voice of Chucky, while it’s speculated that this might be the TV project that Channel Zero showrunner Nick Antosca recently said he was devoloping with Mancini.
There’s no word yet on what channel or streaming service it will debut on, but keep in mind that Mancini’s Chucky sequels are produced by Universal Pictures. Antosca’s Channel Zero is produced by NBCUniversal Television and airs on Syfy, so if the speculation of his involvement is true Universal may be looking to keep things in the corporate family.
