Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Feb. 6

Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Feb. 6 – Introducing today’s contestants:

-Quin, a graphic designer from Albuquerque, NM, who used to come home from school at lunch to watch Jeopardy!, which aired on NBC at noon (hey, I did that too!);

– Nabila, a software engineer from New York, NY, who is willing to pay extra for the taste of bottled water; and

– Sean, an expiditer from Cherry Hill, NJ, who keeps those vehicle registrations moving. Sean is a one-day champ with winnings of $20,000.

For the second straight game, Sean led at every break but this time, didn’t have a runaway going into FJ with $16,400 vs. $11,000 for Quin and $9,400 for Nabila

DD1 – GRAPHICS – Designers want images to be clear and have good this 10-letter word, also a favorable novel outcome (Graphic designer Quin lost $1,000)

DD2 – PIRATES! – In 1815 James Madison pardoned him and his men (Nabila won $2,400)

DD3 – ENTERTAINE”D” – Shigeru Miyamoto was partly inspired by “Beauty and the Beast” when he created this arcade game (Quin won $3,000)

FJ – PHILOSOPHY – Despite the title, in this Plato work, Socrates says, “I shall never alter my ways, not even if I have to die many times”

Much to Alex’s dismay, everyone missed FJ for the second straight game, with Sean having enough of a cushion to hang on with $10,799 and a two-day total of $30,799.

Note that Quin was in third place with $6,000 at the time when he found DD3, and if he had bet it all, he would have been close enough to likely prevail when Sean missed.

Triple Stumper of the day: In the “Memorials” category, no one got a clue about a flame-marked tomb at a war memorial for this “symbolic fighter”, The Unknown Soldier.

This day in Trebekistan: I honestly cannot comprehend how Alex’s response to Quin’s story about coming home to watch the show as a teenager was a confused “Why?” instead of “That’s fantastic!”

Correct Qs:

DD1 – What is resolution?
DD2 – Who was Jean Lafitte?
DD3 – What is Donkey Kong?
FJ – What is “The Apologia” (“The Apology of Socrates”)?
