Ask an Old(er) Person

Think of an event from before your birth, or from when you were a small child. Want to know about it? Ask an old(er) person! Let’s get stories of the 20th century told by the people who were alive at the time. We have people of all ages in this community, and I’d like to take advantage of that.

Some starter questions for people older than me.

  1. The Challenger disaster. I was about to turn six when seven astronauts were killed when the space shuttle Challenger disintegrated shortly after liftoff. What do you remember of that day?
  2. The last days of the Nixon White House. What was it like to live through – what do you remember that we can’t get from our history books?
  3. The arrival of the comet Kohoutek. It was supposed to be the most remarkable astronomical event of the century … until it fizzled out unceremoniously. What do you remember of the hype? What was the mood after the disappointment?
