2017 Snubby Awards: The Nominations

Welcome to the 2017 Snubby Awards! I’m your host, Billy Crystal, and tonight (and all week) we’ll be looking at the best performances and films not nominated for an Oscar yesterday. We’ll also look at deserving films in three categories that are themselves ignored by the Academy: Voice Acting, Stuntwork, and Casting.

We’re going to do things a bit differently this time. For Snubbies that look at years past, I start the discussion by adding a bunch of films to the mix — any Picture/Director nominated in one category and not the other; any Golden Globe or BAFTA nominee not nominated for an Oscar; anything else that occurs to me. Then readers are free to make their own suggestions.

However, since we’re in the present, and the movies are all fresh in our minds, I’m just going to post the categories, and you can all suggest films and performances. Prighlofone, who’s been helping behind the scenes for a while now, (mostly in the form of pushing me to post on time) will start things off with a bunch of suggestions, but feel free to add your own! I may go through and clean up some posts if anything gets suggested twice, or if something’s deemed to be in the wrong category.

As always, upvote for any films you think are deserving. The top five upvoted films will be our Snubby nominees, and next week we’ll vote for the winners, who will receive a gold statue of Spike Lee.

For reference, here are your actual Oscar nominees, who are not eligible for the Snubby.
