Musicals Thread (Being in the Show)

Welcome! The purpose of this thread is to talk about all things related to the wonderful world of musical theatre. Each week I will post a thread with a topic/question for everyone to respond to. This is also a great place to mention any new musicals you’ve discovered and/or general recommendations for other musical fans. Heard/seen any good shows lately? Have any theatre news to share? Tell us about it!

I saw Lady Bird a couple of weeks ago, and it reminded me how fun/dramatic being in a play/musical can be. If you haven’t seen the movie, the main character signs up for her school’s musical and has lots of fun (and drama) with the cast during rehearsals and such. So, with that in mind, I was wondering what are some of your favorite memories of being in a musical (or play)? What’s it like to be in a show?

I don’t know about you all, but I haven’t been involved in that many productions. I was in theater in high school, but I only ever performed in two real shows. I was Agnes in The Shadow Box (this was our UIL One Act show that year—no, we did not win) and Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Being Helena was like a dream come true, and both shows were a blast to work on, but I was never in a musical. I was cast as an extra in Beauty and the Beast, but I wasn’t able to make rehearsals so I had to turn the role down. I really wish I had been able to be in at least one musical because it always seemed like so much fun. I ran the spotlight for a few shows, but it wasn’t the same as being in the cast. All of this is to say that I don’t have that much stage experience, so I’d love to hear about your experiences! What’s it like to be on stage? Have any fun backstage stories to share (dramatic showmances, perhaps)? What’s your dream role?
