Jeopardy! recap for Mon., Jan. 15 – Today’s contestants are:
– Tyler, a student from Warrenville, Ill. who took the show’s online test in Ecuador;
– Steve, a newspaper editor and reporter from Ft. Wayne, Ind., ; and
– Gilbert, a university administrator from Princeton, NJ, who works with students concerned with global health. Gilbert is a three-day champ with winnings of $36,599.
This was the fourth straight game in while Gilbert led the way into FJ despite having a fairly modest total, fending off Tyler, who moved up from the deep red early into second. The scores at the end of DJ were Gilbert with $9,600 vs. $7,400 for Tyler and $2,200 for Steve.
DD1 – THE END OF TIME – This 64-year British era ended for a very specific reason in 1901 (Gilbert won $3,000)
DD2 – STREET SMARTS – Anne Rice’s “Interview with a Vampire” influenced Sting’s song “Moon Over” this street (Tyler lost $1,000)
DD3 – JEOPARDY! WRITERS’ ONLINE GO-TOS – For legends & suspect claims, the writers may check snopes.com, named for a family in this man’s novels (Steve lost $1,600)
FJ – THE THEATER – In 1915 this play opened for the last time on Broadway, ironically at the Booth Theatre
Only Gilbert was correct on FJ, as Tyler had the first word wrong, but even if he had gotten it right it wouldn’t have changed the outcome. Gilbert added $5,201 to win with $14,801 (his largest winning score so far) and a four-day total of $51,400.
Triple Stumper of the day: Alex was rightfully appalled that no one recognized Dooley Wilson, Claude Rains and Peter Lorre as being from the supporting cast of “Casablanca”.
Musical miscues: In a category about albums, the players didn’t know that “Sonic Highways” is by Foo Fighters or that “Beautiful Trauma” is by Pink.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex is worried that his replacement has finally arrived: Young Sheldon.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is Victorian?
DD2 – What is Bourbon Street?
DD3 – Who was Faulkner?
FJ – What is “Our American Cousin”? (Tyler wrote “My” instead of “Our”.)
