Jeopardy recap for Thur., Jan. 11

Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Jan. 11 – Today’s contestants are:

– Rebecca, a language specialist from State College, PA who was a tall ship passenger;
– Juile, a reporter/balloon twister from Washington, DC who struggles to made balloon teddy bears; and
– Gilbert, a university administrator from Princeton, NJ who suggests Alex should join him in working for the Peace Corps. Gilbert is a one-day champ with winnings of $8,399.

Gilbert ran the very first category about college basketball and led every step of the way, while Rebecca stayed alive by getting the last clue of DJ to enter FJ with $7,600 vs. $14,800 for Gilbert and $3,800 for Julie.

DD1 – STATE SEALS – Each ray of the large star on its state seal has an emblem of one of the 5 Civilized Tribes (Gilbert won $2,000)

DD2 – EUROPEA”N” GEOGRAPHY – This city is about 20 miles northeast of Cannes (Julie lost $3,000)

DD3 – BARTLETT’S FAMILIAR QUOTATIONS – In 1798 he told his men, “From the summit of yonder pyramids forty centuries look down upon you” (Gilbert won $2,000)

FJ – THE MOVIES – It’s the first Oscar nominee for Best Picture to be produced by an internet streaming service

Only Julie was correct on FJ, with Gilbert losing a minimal amount of $401 to win with $14,399 for a two-day total of $22,798.

Note that Alex returned via a post-produced segment to explain that due to an issue with the language of the FJ clue, a contestant would be invited back. Although she wasn’t named, that would have to be Rebecca, since she was the only player who missed FJ who theoretically could have been denied a fair shot to win.

Triple Stumpers of the day: In the “Rhyming Phrases” category, no one knew that a full-length monster movie is a “creature feature”. Also, the players couldn’t guess that the “new duel audio process” from the 50s was stereo.

Correct Qs:

DD1 – What is Oklahoma?
DD2 – What is Nice?
DD3 – Who was Napoleon?
FJ – What is “Manchester by the Sea”? (The problem with the clue is that Amazon distributed the movie but did not produce it.)
