Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Dec. 6 – Every player had a chance at a DD and all of them were correct, but despite small amounts available to them to wager, none of them bet it all.
As a result, we had a most interesting scenario going into FJ with champ Kyle at $13,200 while both Lindsay and Eric were at $6,600. So there was a real possibility that we’d see our first tiebreaker clue since the elimination of co-champions.
DD1 – THE EYE – Sometimes when we get older, this part of the retina “degenerates” & causes blurriness in our field of vision (Kyle won $1,000)
DD2 – IT’S HYPHENATED – The Venerable Bede said they were descendants of 3 different Germanic peoples– the Jutes & the 2 in their name (Lindsay won $2,000)
DD3 – VICTIM OF GRAVITY – A 2017 Vogue story said Susan Sarandon’s dress had this type of “neckline” (Eric won $3,000)
FJ – REFERENCE BOOKS – This manual resulted from a military engineer’s attendance at an unruly 1860s church meeting
The chance for a tiebreaker died when both Lindsay and Eric missed FJ and dropped to $0.
Meanwhile, Kyle must have felt good enough about the category that he chose to wager $1 on it instead of $0, which would have sent him to a tiebreaker if either of his opponents had been correct. Given that there was the possibility of a three-way tie, betting something was the right move. Kyle was correct to win with $13,201 and a three-day total of $43,601.
Triple Stumpers of the day: No one figured out that the liquid delivery system developed by an HP engineer was for printer ink, or that the war fought from 1756-1763 was the Seven Years’ War. Also, it was not a “good evening” for the players when they whiffed on four straight clues related to Hitchcock.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex felt compelled to point out how poorly the players had done on the previous show, but he couldn’t have felt much better about this one, as the scores at the end of DJ were remarkably similar to yesterday’s and almost nothing was earned on FJ.
DD1 – What is macula?
DD2 – What are Anglo-Saxons?
DD3 – What is plunging?
FJ – What is “Robert’s Rules of Order”?
