In the heydays of broadcast television and radio, pretty much everyone you knew would be listening to the same bands and watching the same shows as you, because that was all that was available.  Artists and shows can still hit the big time, but with the information age fostered by the ubiquity of the internet, which brings endless varieties of entertainment right to our fingertips, it’s much more easy to discover something new and unknown to your peer groups… and much more easy to fall down a rabbit hole and start consuming entertainment that no one you know has even heard of.
