Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Nov. 10

Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Nov. 10 – TOC day five – Andrew (6 wins) pretty much wrapped up his invite to the next round with a double-up to $16,000 on DD2, then kept pouring it on, finishing DJ with $26,800.

Meanwhile, Jon (5 wins) never got into gear and had no chance with only $3,800, so the only suspense going into FJ was if Justin (5 wins) could nail down a wild card with a correct response and/or a bet of under $4,000 of his $16,000.

DD1 – FRENCH DIP – When I was young ma mere warned me of this part of our pool, le côté profond (Andrew won $1,000)

DD2 – CLASSICAL MUSIC – “Royal March of the Lions”, “The Elephant”, “Aquarium” & “The Swan” are all part of this French work (Andrew won $8,000 on a true DD.)

DD3 – INDIAN AMERICANS – This Sunday morning CNN host was only 28 when he was appointed as the Managing Editor of Foreign Affairs (Justin won $3,000)

FJ – AWARDS & HONORS – The Victoria Cross is for military bravery; this Cross first given in 1940 & named for Victoria’s great-grandson is for civilian bravery

Only Andrew was correct on FJ, as Justin added an extra letter that made his response incorrect. Justin shockingly bet $7,000, despite already having an amount that would be expected to be good enough for a wild card. He dropped to $9,000, below the $11,500 score that would have kept him in the tournament.

Going into the next round, joining Andrew are Buzzy, Jason, Alan, Lisa, Pranjal, Austin, Lilly and Tim.

Triple Stumpers of the day: The champs aren’t science fiction fans, as they missed clues about Dune author Frank Herbert, the last word in the title of a tale of carniverous plants “The Day of the Triffids”, and inside-the-body adventure “Fantastic Voyage”.

Movie miscues: No one could solve the Kubrick movie mash-up of “Paths of Glory” and “A Clockwork Orange”, and even after Andrew was one letter off, his rivals didn’t come up with the Hitchcock pair, “Dial M for Murder” and “Strangers on a Train”.

Correct Qs:

DD1 – What is the deep side (end)?
DD2 – What is “Carnival of the Animals”?
DD3 – Who is Fareed Zakaria?
FJ – What is The George Cross? (Justin replied “The George’s Cross”.)
