Hi everyone. Welcome back to another edition of Tailgate Talk. Each week I recap some of the major games from the week before and preview the games next week. Feel free to talk about the games, off season antics, seasons past, health concerns, ethics, the bands, the mascots, or what have you. However, if you’re here to complain about “sportsball,” this is simply not the forum for you, okay?
South Carolina @ Georgia Jake Fromm threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns and Nick Chubb ran for 102 yards. The Bulldogs beat the Gamecocks 24-10.
LSU @ Alabama Jalen Hurts threw for 183 yards, had 44 rushing yards and a rushing and a passing touchdown each. The Tide beat the Tigers 24-10
Wake Forest @ Notre Dame Wake Forest quarterback John Wolford threw for 331 yards, rushed for 59 and accounted for three touchdowns. Notre Dame’s Brandon Wimbush passed for a career-high 280 yards, ran for 110 more and totaled three touchdowns. The Irish beat the Demon Deacons 48 – 37.
Clemson @ NC State Ryan Finley threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns — including a 40-yard scoring throw to Kelvin Harmon on the first possession, but Tavien Feaster ran for an 89-yard touchdown to end the third quarter and K’Von Wallace picked off Finley on the final possession The Tigers beat the Wolfpack 38 – 31
Oklahoma @ Oklahoma State Baker Mayfield threw for 598 yards and five touchdowns, although he had two interceptions. The Sooners beat the Cowboys 62 – 52.
Ohio State @ Iowa Iowa started the game with a thirty yard pick six by Amani Hooker. J.T. Barrett completed 18 passes for 208 yards and three TDs and ran for 63 yards, but had four interceptions, three by Josh Jackson. Nate Stanley threw for 226 yards and five touchdowns, as the Hawkeyes upset the Buckeyes 55 – 24.
Penn State @ Michigan State Trace McSorley threw for 381 yards and three touchdowns for Penn State, but Saquon Barkley was held to only 63. McSorley was intercepted three times.Matt Coghlin kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired. The Spartans edged out the Nittany Lions 27 – 24 in a game delayed nearly 3 1/2 hours by severe weather.
Texas @ TCU TCU: Quarterback Kenny Hill was 18-of-26 passing for 146 yards, and ran for a season-high 43 yards as the Horned Frogs beat the Longhorns 24 – 7
Wisconsin @ Indiana Jonathan Taylor ran for 183 yards and one score and Alec Ingold scored three touchdowns on five touches as the Badgers beat the Hoosiers 45 – 17.
Virginia Tech @ Miami Malik Rosier threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, Travis Homer had a 64-yard touchdown run and the Hurricanes beat the Hokies 28- 10
Around the League: Washington beat Oregon 38-3; Auburn beat Texas A&M 42-27; Iowa State lost to West Virginia 20-16; Mississippi State beat UMass 34-23; Arizona lost to USC 49-35; UCF beats SMU 31- 24; Stanford lost to Washington State 24- 21; Florida lost to Missouri 45-16; and Florida State survived Syracuse 27-24.
Sam Darnold said this week that if the Browns get the first pick in the draft, that he will remain at USC. He… he thinks he’ll be picked first, ya’ll. That’s adorable.

At the polls: The top four of the AP poll are Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Clemson. Ohio State and Penn State fell out of the top ten. The committee releases their findings every Tuesday

From Midwestern Living: Beer-Braised Brats
10 uncooked bratwurst links (2 1/2 pounds total); 1/4 cup butter; 1 large onion, halved and cut into thin slices; 2 12 – ounce bottle or cans dark German beer; 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar; 2 tablespoons vinegar; 1 teaspoon caraway seeds; 1 teaspoon dried thyme, crushed; 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce; 10 hoagie buns, bratwurst buns, or other crusty rolls, split and toasted; Easy Cranberry-Pickle Relish
Pierce bratwursts with fork. For a charcoal grill: Arrange medium-hot coals around a drip pan. Test for medium heat above pan. Place bratwursts on grill rack over drip pan. Cover; grill 20 to 30 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into bratwursts registers 160 degrees F, turning once halfway through grilling time. (For a gas grill: Preheat the grill. Reduce heat to medium. Adjust for indirect cooking. Grill as directed above.) Meanwhile, in a Dutch oven, heat butter over medium heat. Add onion; cook and stir about 5 minutes or until tender. Add beer, brown sugar, vinegar, caraway seeds, thyme, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Place bratwursts in beer mixture; keep warm until serving time. To serve, place grilled bratwurst in a bun or roll. Using a slotted spoon, top with some cooked onion slices and Easy Cranberry-Pickle Relish (cranberry sauce and pickle relish). Makes 10 sandwiches.
