Tina’s burgeoning independence after watching Sound of Music leads her to pick a fight with Tammy in what seems to be a natural outgrowth of their relationship. The show’s too kind-natured to have them have a complete falling out, instead opting for a message of tolerance that didn’t feel completely earned. Episodes like this live or die on their one-liners and comedy bits, and here there were quite a few that worked thanks to the winning combination of Tina’s understated tone and her righteous anger.

The rest of the family’s date night subplot gave way pretty quickly to some organized chaos that Bob is much better at rolling with then in earlier seasons, as he accepts Linda’s fantasy of being a bathroom attendant and the kids’ bribery schemes without any futile words of protest
