Still reeling from the shock of slaughtering not just an innocent man, but also the one person gifted with the Healer’s touch, it took a minute for the companions to process Amedeo Ladro di Bandiera’s announcement. “‘Dark ichor’?” asked Baern, perplexed. “‘Serial Killer’ beep boop?” chimed in Lady AUTONOMOUS PROTECTION BOT. “Yes!” Amedeo repeated grandly, “’Tis I who am the Serial Killer in the ebony night – gorgeous, terrible, sensuous.” “You mean to say you’ve been responsible for these mysterious murders amongst us?” Turminder glowered, reaching for his bow. “Well, no,” admitted Amedeo. “But I will be henceforth. I shall create masterpieces with your last breaths!” “I’m . . . very confused,” replied Holimion. “Aha!” declared Amedeo. “I have confounded you all with my design! And you can do nothing about it. Nothing! For you cannot kill one who embraces death! I challenge you to try!” The travelers looked at one another, nonplussed. Finally, Magda said, “Okay then. So, um, how long until we reach the labyrinth?” “I see your artless schemes,” Amedeo shrieked, “and they will avail you not!” Then he turned his blade upon himself: “Death, thou shalt die!” As it happened, however, the only death that night was Amedeo’s.
