Reviews of television shows
This is another more procedural episode, nothing too earth shattering from a story arc perspective, but it does rely on previous episodes which I like. Also it deals with essentially an officer involved shooting and it deals with it more … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“There All the Honor Lies”
Babylon 5 was a show that was determined to show that long form television was viable for all kinds of shows, not just soap operas. This was a decently bold vision for the time, and something of an experiment for … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“And Now for a Word”
I’ve always had conflicting feelings about this one. Jermaine finally introduces Finn & Jake’s brother, mentioned in passing several times but never actually properly featured as a character. And unlike our heroes, Jermaine isn’t a free-spirited adventurer. He’s more buttoned … Continue reading Come Along With Me: Adventure Time – “Jermaine” and “Chips and Ice Cream”
I consider this episode another in the “its the 90’s” category. We get a look into the case being built against President Clark, and we get some scenes that are very X-Files-ish. Also there are echoes of the present day … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…- “Hunter, Prey”
This episode is a tremendous downer that advances the Narn-Centauri War arc, paired with by far one of the most cringe-inducing plots and scenes in the show, at least for me. We begin to see the Narns in a more … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“Acts of Sacrifice”
At this point in its run, Adventure Time is no stranger to questions of complicated morality. Situations where it’s hard to know the right thing to do, or where characters we root for do things we don’t. Hell, earlier this … Continue reading Come Along With Me: “Dark Purple” and “The Diary”
All Alone in the Night is a good arc heavy episode, concerned with moving some pieces around to support further story lines, but also giving us a good old fashioned alien abduction story at it’s center. It is part of … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“All Alone in the Night”
After the excitement and drama of The Coming of Shadows, it is somewhat inevitable that we would have a bit of a comedown with the next episode. Episode 10 pushes us firmly back into the troubles with Earth category of … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“GROPOS”
Astral Plane Boarded by: Jesse Moynihan and Jillian Tamaki Aired: January 22, 2015 Reviewed by: CedricTheOwl We’re fully in the age of serialized Adventure Time with this episode, as the approaching comet we saw at the end of “Evergreen” figures … Continue reading Come Along With Me: Adventure Time – “Astral Plane” and “Gold Stars”
In some ways this episode is a bit of a rehash. The battle scene is kind of a repeat of the end of season 1, and the whole thing is intended as a mirror to the first episode of the … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“The Coming of Shadows”
The Pajama War Air Date: January 8, 2015 | Written and Storyboarded by Somvilay Xayaphone & Seo Kim | Reviewed by Blip It’s been quite a while (more than a year and a half, actually) since I wrote up one … Continue reading Come Along With Me: Adventure Time – “The Pajama War” and “Evergreen”
This episode is another one that I dont revisit often, but I would not go as far as saying it is a bad episode. It is held back by laying track for a train that never comes along, but inside … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“A Race Through Dark Places”
Finn doesn’t want to go dentist. And can you blame him? They put you in a whole filled with snakes and rotten butter, and they leave you there. But also, dentist is ants? Dentist is dentist. And when you go … Continue reading Come Along With Me: Adventure Time – “Dentist” and “The Cooler”
This episode is something of a guilty pleasure of mine. In story terms it has very little to do with any ongoing arcs. Nothing here is going to be referenced again. It does get into a little more of the … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“Soul Mates”
Welcome one and all to the second half of season 6 of Adventure Time reviews! Seasons 5 and 6 of this show are double length, consisting of more episodes than the standard 26, so we’ll be handling signups a little … Continue reading Come Along With Me: Adventure Time Season 6B Central Hub and Sign-up Thread
It can’t be a mid-90’s TV show without some good old fashioned government conspiracy storylines. This one dolls it up with Mars, and semi-undead cyborgs. But at it’s heart is big businesses colluding with the government to crush a peaceful … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“A Spider in the Web”
Is That You? Boarded by: Jesse Moynihan Aired: November 25, 2014 Reviewed by: CedricTheOwl The explosive two-parter that opened season 6 of Adventure Time had consequences that the season has spent a large portion of its runtime exploring. The revelation … Continue reading Come Along With Me: Adventure Time – “Is That You?” and “Jake the Brick”
If Babylon 5 could be said to have a Halloween episode it would be this one. A mysterious derelict ship, an ancient enemy, and a red herring survivor all combine for a decently spooky episode that is let down somewhat … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“The Long Dark”
Ghost Fly | Aired: October 28, 2014 | Reviewed by Stars Hi everyone. Your friendly neighbourhood Stars has returned[footnote]from an almost 2 month break 🙃! Oh hey, wasn’t that the usual summer break gap? Only recently realised we’ve kind of … Continue reading Come Along With Me: Adventure Time – “Ghost Fly” and “Everything’s Jake”
A Distant Star is the first weak episode of Season 2 in my opinion. Though not as bad as the worst of Season 1 (looking at you Infection). It represents the last of the “Sheridan settling in arc” and expands … Continue reading The Last Best Hope… “A Distant Star”
After the high stakes of a brand new captain, and a mysterious ancient enemy, episode three is a bit more light hearted(aside from one character seemingly idly contemplating suicide). None of the plot points here are going to reverberate throughout … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“The Geometry of Shadows”
