Reviews of films
To coin a phrase from a wise caveman, the modern world confuses and frightens me. What, for example, are we to make of Okja? Is it a foreign movie? Is it a movie at all? Sure, it was helmed by … Continue reading Made Overseas: Okja (2017)
Unless one goes viral, shorts rarely get any mainstream attention. They also rarely wind up even shown to most audiences unless they are attached to another movie and usually that film is from Pixar. For a select few though, an … Continue reading Movie Reviews: Oscar Nominated Shorts – Animated (2018)

Giallo is a major hole in my film viewing history. I’d estimate, working with the sporadic, incomplete lists I’ve kept over the years, that I’ve seen around 7000 films, as I’ve been adding about 500 a year for the last … Continue reading Double Features: Deep Red (1975) and Suspiria (1977)
For the Spoil Sports article, click here Despite all the talk of “superhero fatigue”, Marvel movies are still event films. Even before I picked up a Moviepass, any movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was still something I made … Continue reading Movie Reviews: Black Panther (2018)

While the times have been changing and the quality film window has been growing, the first couple months of the years are still a dumping ground for shitty horror movies. Sure, we get the occasional Get Out, but for the most … Continue reading Movie Reviews: Still/Born (2017)

One of the big problems of bringing superheroes to the screen has always been, “How do you keep the audience from just laughing at the inherent absurdity material?” Last time, we talked about how the 1966 Batman TV show and … Continue reading Before Capes Were Cool #10: Flash Gordon (1980)
