All Alone in the Night is a good arc heavy episode, concerned with moving some pieces around to support further story lines, but also giving us a good old fashioned alien abduction story at it’s center. It is part of … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“All Alone in the Night”
After the excitement and drama of The Coming of Shadows, it is somewhat inevitable that we would have a bit of a comedown with the next episode. Episode 10 pushes us firmly back into the troubles with Earth category of … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“GROPOS”
In some ways this episode is a bit of a rehash. The battle scene is kind of a repeat of the end of season 1, and the whole thing is intended as a mirror to the first episode of the … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“The Coming of Shadows”
This episode is another one that I dont revisit often, but I would not go as far as saying it is a bad episode. It is held back by laying track for a train that never comes along, but inside … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“A Race Through Dark Places”
This episode is something of a guilty pleasure of mine. In story terms it has very little to do with any ongoing arcs. Nothing here is going to be referenced again. It does get into a little more of the … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“Soul Mates”
It can’t be a mid-90’s TV show without some good old fashioned government conspiracy storylines. This one dolls it up with Mars, and semi-undead cyborgs. But at it’s heart is big businesses colluding with the government to crush a peaceful … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“A Spider in the Web”
If Babylon 5 could be said to have a Halloween episode it would be this one. A mysterious derelict ship, an ancient enemy, and a red herring survivor all combine for a decently spooky episode that is let down somewhat … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“The Long Dark”
A Distant Star is the first weak episode of Season 2 in my opinion. Though not as bad as the worst of Season 1 (looking at you Infection). It represents the last of the “Sheridan settling in arc” and expands … Continue reading The Last Best Hope… “A Distant Star”
After the high stakes of a brand new captain, and a mysterious ancient enemy, episode three is a bit more light hearted(aside from one character seemingly idly contemplating suicide). None of the plot points here are going to reverberate throughout … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“The Geometry of Shadows”
This episode kind of feels like the original Season 2 premiere. Last weeks episode was an emergency story that had to deliver a great deal of exposition about a sudden new lead character. It was such a large task that … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…- “Revelations”
Season 1’s title was “Signs and Portents” and it was a season all about establishing the universe while hinting at what was to come. By and large it did a great job at that, establishing several long running conflicts, and … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…- “Points of Departure”
Well here we are. I started this project while on my Christmas vacation and twenty two weeks later we have come upon the first big milestone, the season 1 finale “Chrysalis”. All of season 1 has been one great exercise … Continue reading The Last Best Hope… -“Chrysalis”
The Quality of Mercy is an excellent choice for a penultimate episode of the season. It has some light hearted bits while also expanding on the universe in interesting ways. We get new information on Centauri biology and Minbari morality. … Continue reading The Last Best Hope… – “The Quality of Mercy”
Now we are in the home stretch of Season 1. There were some wobbly episodes in the middle, and some so so performances from the main cast (Jerry Doyle) and some of the guest actors, but this is the start … Continue reading The Last Best Hope… -“Babylon Squared”
After a short recap, we drop right back into the action, and it turns out the large mysterious ship from the cliffhanger in the first episode is an Earth Alliance warship, the EAS Hyperion. Captain Ellis Pierce, played by Ron … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“A Voice in the Wilderness(Part 2)
Two parters used to be a big part of broadcast television. Before serialized storytelling caught on as the default in most dramas, a two parter gave extra incentive to come back in a week, to see how a bunch of … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“A Voice in the Wilderness(Part 1)
First things first, a confession. This may not exactly be a second look for me and this film. Not because I have not seen it before. I have seen it during its endless reruns on Comedy Central in the late … Continue reading Second Look: Canadian Bacon
This episode feels like a pretty good standard episode of a scifi show. We have an alien culture that is being difficult to work with, and we have a telepath that has to decide on what to do with her … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“Legacies”
Product placement is one of those crappy parts of television and film. It was something that greatly offended me as a young show watcher. When I got older I learned to live with it if it meant a show I … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“Eyes”
Rewatching episode 15 “Grail” was something of a milestone in my rewatch of Season 1. It is the first episode that I really dont have much of an opinion on one way or the other. It is basically fine. It … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“Grail”
After soaring for two weeks in a row, Babylon 5 gets brought back down to Earth so to speak by “TKO”. This is probably one of the most hated episodes of Babylon 5, and easily one of the worst in … Continue reading The Last Best Hope…-“TKO”
