This is part of a series of mini-reviews of The Police’s studio albums, ranked worst to best. (Don’t worry; I’ll keep them short.)
#2: Reggatta de Blanc.
The best encapsulation of The Police’s original sound. Sting, Copeland and Summers are all at the top of their game. This album has more songs by Copeland than any other Police album.
BEST SONGS: Message In A Bottle, It’s Alright For You, Walking On The Moon, On Any Other Day*, The Bed’s Too Big Without You, Does Everyone Stare
WORST SONGS: Even the instrumental title track is pretty good.
*Unfortunately, this is a product of its time in that the protagonist laments his son’s sexuality. But it’s still a great tune and has a marvelous ending, if you can get past that.
