I Can’t Do This On My Own: A Scrubs Discussion Space

The second season of ABC’s Scrubs revival (I’ve seen it referred to in this site’s comments sections as a reboot, and it’s not a reboot, folks—it’s more of a sequel series) kicked off this week with two episodes. They are “My First Time in a While,” which was written by Mathew Harawitz and directed by Scrubs star Zach Braff, and “My Mentee,” which was written by Mark Stegemann and directed by Michael Spiller.

“My Mentee” is one of my favorite episodes of the revival, which is showrun by Aseem Batra, so far. I gave “My Mentee” four and a half stars on Serializd.

Discuss “My First Time in a While” and “My Mentee” or maybe why Elliot’s line in “My Mentee” about trying to freeze time on her face appears to be a light jab at Christa Miller, who reprises her role as Jordan, Dr. Cox’s partner, in “My First Time in a While,” is married to Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, and also happens to be one of Scrubs’s music supervisors.

“I did Botox once. Do not go down that road. Try telling a patient, ‘I’m so sorry your cancer’s back,’ with frozen bitch face,” says Elliot to Dr. Sam Tosh, played by Ava Bunn, who has been promoted to regular status this season.

I wonder if Miller has a good sense of humor about herself and is able to lift her facial muscles when she laughs at that line.
