There’s even more going on in my personal life than in the past few posts, pretty much none of it involving creative endeavors, so I’m trying to muster the energy to get back in the game, as I haven’t really painted or drawn in over a week (if you don’t count my visit to the biweekly figure sketch session in the town next door last Wednesday). I’ve been juggling potential travel plans (London solo might actually be on the cards in May!!), confronting infrastructural challenges (our refrigerator died this weekend and I’m not sure when we’re getting another), shouldering an increasingly annoying vibe at work (I’ve had it a lot worse, believe you me, but I could have it better, and should try), all the other family stuff I’ve dwelt on in the past several weeks (no comment), and finally and foremost, girding my figurative loins for my first job interview in over four years (and the last one was my first in fourteen, if that gives you any idea) tomorrow morning.

That last came as a bit of a surprise, as I hadn’t heard anything for weeks after the application period closed and figured it’d turn out another shot in the dark. This is for the department I’ve heard really good things about, too, so I’m hopeful a greater interest in its workings (and my applying to a lower-level position than I did last time in another department) will run in my favor. Trying not to think too hard about how this might impact my art practice (as I understand it, I’d get weekends off—which could open up potential exhibition and sales opportunities assuming I can get to them as a confirmed—for now—non-driver—but weekday nights are off the table—that’ll be most of my group sketch nights gone) and hoping to focus tomorrow on how long I’ve wanted this (I’ve wanted to move on in one way or another for over a decade now) and how it’ll be likelier to lead to better things (and more flexibility) than my present job. Fingers crossed, anyway.

The header was a sketch I did of a couple of (presumably) students on the University of Michigan Diag; I wandered around a bit in a happy daze after getting the call and sketched them.
