A month ago we talked about characters with the same powers and who were our favorites. This week, let’s expand beyond powers and think about characters, concepts, settings, genres, and creators that appeal to you compared to similar works.
For example, maybe you don’t normally read horror but you’re fully invested in The Nice House on the Lake. Or you do like crime comics but there’s something special about the combination of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips that make them your gold standard. Or you don’t read funny animal comics but you’re working your way through the Carl Barks library.
What makes certain comics, characters, concepts or creators appeal to you? Why are they different from anything else? And… maybe there’s something you’ve overlooked that someone else can recommend!
Last week, we conversed about comics we stopped reading.
Next week, we’ll converse about Green Lanterns. (That’s a little more focused topic, eh? And they’ve got one of them televisual shows right now.)
