Rock-A-Doodle opened on this day 35 years ago. Yes, this might serve as a grim reminder of your mortality. Fucking Rock-A-Doodle turning 35. Where does time even go? Or maybe you’ve actually never watched Rock-A-Doodle and don’t consider its theatrical release to be a cultural milestone of your life. But that’s fair, since many of those theaters were empty roosts. Rock-A-Doodle can be accurately called Don Bluth’s first true flop, despite this teaser trailer proclaiming it “1992’s animation sensation.”
Wait…1992? But…no, I checked. It can’t have come out in 1992! That would mean today is only the 34th anniversary, and celebrating that would be silly even for me. I only do that bit for Quest for Camelot. I can’t have “Christopher Plummer’s Evil Vampire Owl” become my new gimmick around here. No, I must be right. I’m never wrong about this stuff!

Well fuck. It turns out that Rock-A-Doodle only opened in the UK in 1991, and didn’t come to the states until the following year. And I can’t even highlight its UK release today, since it came out in August! Well shit. Shit and fuck. Do you have any idea how many cock jokes I had planned for this? Now I have to turn to the “Emergency Topics for Scrat Headers” folder. Ugh.
Ummm…here’s a funny Sesame Street sketch featuring Cookie Monster and a bunny. Since it’s Easter, I guess that counts as seasonal. There are a lot of interesting things about this bunny, except not really. He’s certainly no Christopher Plummer Vampire Owl. I mean, even his Muppet Wiki page has barely any information. He only ever appeared on the show three times, apparently, with this being his only sketch. But who knows, since Sesame Street has literally had thousands of episodes, making it very difficult to accurately catalog online.
I do love the way Cookie Monster places such sacred importance on the title of his poem (“Cookies”), tilting upwards towards the heavens to emphasize his love for his favorite snack. This segment might also be the first time he behaved like a cocaine addict over them, as he really needs a cookie before he’s even finished reciting his rhymes. But this bunny is having none of that. No wonder he didn’t catch on. He’s just pretending to be “impressed” by Cookie’s writing for the cameras, but you know this guy was probably an asshole on set once the Muppet Director said “cut!”
Peace out, y’all! Only 364 nights until I can do a proper Rock-A-Doodle anniversary header. Your time will come, Christopher Plummer Vampire Owl!
