As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, part of my website overhaul has been the addition of a blog of sorts. I’ve had a lot of ideas kicking around in my head concerning my artwork, what it means, and how it fits into whatever place creative work has in today’s society and culture. I’ve hashed some of them out in these threads, to be sure, but I wanted to have a more dedicated space as—this being me—they might become a little long-winded and y’all don’t deserve that, do you? Nevertheless, I’ve resolved to make at least a few entries despite my ongoing struggle to link individual entries without going into multiple pages, so to speak (as I doubt there’ll be more than eight or nine yammers before I’ll run out of stuff to presently say). They’re presently organized here: https://wendellmckay.com/thoughts-and-scribbles/
Had another minor breakthrough in terms of printmaking; I’ve been able to shape my process into more of a system (I’ve now got multiple sets of each print that “came through” on Bristol board), and I’m kicking myself for not realizing I can just use the remaining ink (that I can’t brayer down any more for a feasible print) as a kind of watercolor for paintings. I hate wasting product, so this was a welcome (and long overdue) revelation. Not sure how it’ll translate into finished works, but I can always use the ink as a background for gouache, I figure. I haven’t done a theode in a while, that’s for sure.
How’s your work going?
