Happy Monday, folks, and welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread!
I’m currently enjoying Pokémon Pokopia, and one of the game’s many wonderful elements is its in-game camera. Your Pokédex is a smartphone! You can take photos, swap the perspective to get selfies, make extremely artificial facial expressions, and capture fun interactions between Pokémon. That this would charm me may not come as a surprise, since I’ve become increasingly obsessed with in-game photography. I love using it, trying it out, and using those pictures for articles or headers. It’s probably a good thing I don’t have BlueSky, because that would just be my feed forever.
Today’s prompt, appropriately, is in-game photography, photo modes that don’t just freeze the screen but exist diegetically. However, there’s a side part of this, because in-game photography often has a function or purpose. It’s perhaps most notable in the Fatal Frame series, where you snap pics of ghosts to fend them off, but indies like Viewfinder find…
…You know, I was planning on playing Viewfinder soon. That would’ve been a real good place to actually use this prompt! But I’m sure I’ll find something to say about it and get even more use out of Pokopia, too boot, because holy hell, it’s got material to spare.
I do hope these weird ramblings are okay. I am trying to make these shorter. Anyway, what did you play this weekend?
