Reminders of Hoppers — Weekend Box Office Report for March 13th-March 15th, 2026

Time to take a break from reading everyone’s annoying comments arguing about the Oscars and talk about some movies, and how much money they made. It should be almost as exciting as that Bridesmaids reunion from last night no one asked for and went on for eternity. Good stuff! (Okay, okay, Conan’s “Oscar acceptance speech” was pretty funny)

Our number one movie, once again, is Hoppers, which showed a pretty dam good hold. This might be the first animated movie Disney successfully marketed to the meme generation, and it’s paying off. Hoppers has gnawed up $86 million to date, meaning it has already surpassed the entire domestic gross of last year’s Elio. Good on everyone involved for being able to produce a commercial hit here which people are enjoying. As an aside, the Japanese title for Hoppers is When I Became a Beaver. That had nothing whatsoever to do with this column. I just found it funny.

Next up, we have Reminders of Him, the latest from Colleen Hoover which is technically the best-reviewed film ever based off one of her novels. There’s a good chance you saw the trailer for this one–it was attached to everything from Bugonia to SpongeBob SquarePants–but you’d also be forgiven for mistaking it for a faith-based flick. Reminders had a great Friday but was more or less frontloaded, capping off the weekend with a take of $17 million. Not bad at all, but a far cry from the $50 million It Ends With Us somehow managed (no, I’m not getting into that, but it’s pretty safe to say the initially planned sequel It Starts With Us is never going to happen now). Still, last year’s Regretting You ended up having no regrets as it proved to be quite leggy (despite atrocious reviews), so the latest pronoun adventure title from Hoover might be far from done.

Our other newcomer, Undertone, is a curious case. It was made for only $500,000 before being acquired by A24 in a bidding war for an undisclosed amount of money. So is $9 million a good take? I literally have no fucking idea. Like Paranormal Activity, this is a novelty horror film which is marketing itself online as “one of the scariest movies ever made.” And like Reminders of Him, it was also frontloaded. A spooky flick opening on Friday the 13th is always going to have an advantage on that day. It remains to be seen if it wasn’t just one and done this weekend, though.

And speaking of scary movies, Scream 7 is officially our first 2026 release to pass the $100 million mark stateside. By this time next week, it will be the highest grossing in the franchise. Scre8m is absolutely going to happen now, hopefully in outer space.

Anyway, the top ten, via Box Office Mojo (note these numbers do not represent weekend actuals, hence why Reminders of Him has a slightly larger number than I reported in my writeup)
