If I’m Running Away… consists of 9 tracks that offer sing-along choruses, noodly emo riffs, and lyrics that only become more relatable as the national wealth gap widens. Cuts like the opener “Nuisance” move through several different time changes and tempos to climax in a blistering guitar solo, while songs like “17 Again” and “Escape Plans” are more likely to be heard behind the closed door of a teenager’s bedroom in 2008. “S E P A R A T E” channels Deftones in its crushing off-kilter choruses, while “Mutually Assured Destruction” is a nearly 8-minute closer that would make Jimmy Eat World proud.
