The Tabletop Games Thread Does Magic (2/18/26)

Welcome back to the weekly Tabletop Games thread! This thread is where we can talk about all kinds of RPGs, card games, board games, etc. Whether you gather around a physical table in the real world, or use a virtual space to play with friends who may live far away from you, this is where you can discuss your favorites, ask for and/or receive recommendations, recap your recent adventures, or even find some people to play games with!

Discussion Prompt: Magic is a big part of D&D and other fantasy RPGs, with players and NPCs using magic to throw fireballs, conjure illusions, or bring the dead back to life. While many spell descriptions include specific words, motions, or components that must be used to cast a specific spell, other are left more vague, and anyway, TTRPGs generally encourage players to switch things up however they see fit. Describing your spells is an easy way to differentiate your player character from everyone else’s–lots of character classes can cast Cure Wounds, but a Life Cleric’s spell might look very different from that of a Wildfire Druid. So, when you’re playing a spellcaster, what does your magic look like?

If you would like to suggest a prompt or contribute a write-up or discussion topic of your own, let me know in the comments!
