In 2018 SHINee1Pronounced “shiny” if you’re curious. They debuted in 2008, and they are still active. Their members all have active solo careers as well. released 3 EPs titled “The Story of Light”. Following this, they released all three EPs as a single album, along with a new song. In my humble opinion, this collection of songs is a masterpiece. This is the kind of album that makes me think “Wow, I wasted so many years not listening to these songs, what a shame, better make up for lost time now.” Even if you think you don’t like K-Pop, I hope that you’ll give these songs a chance. 🥰 I plan to share a song or two from each EP over the next several weeks in the OT headers, so who knows, maybe you’ll find something you like. 💎

So today is The Story of Light EP 1. I chose these songs because “All Day All Night” is an absolute perfect opener. It starts with the most peaceful vibes imaginable, and then kicks into gear with an infectious energy. The chorus features SHINee’s perfect harmonizing as they join their voices together, creating a really beautiful feeling of unity.2I should say, this was their first release after the death of their 5th member Jonghyun. They will always be 5 to their fans, and they carry him with him in all of their work. You can read up on it if you want, but trigger warning: suicide.

The second song, “Good Evening” is going to be stuck in your head, just want to warn you before you listen. It’s clearly influenced by R&B and samples 112’s “Cupid”. Wiki tells me it’s “deep house” which I’m too dumb to know what is but it does feel like the right word. Anyway, it rules.
