Movieacados! Not all movies can be Black Dynamite (in point of fact I would argue that only Black Dynamite gets to be Black Dynamite). That movie was great from the start and just kept getting better as it went on, and gets better as time goes on too. Most every scene makes me laugh, all the characters are great and it one ups the story in the best way possible halfway through. But not every movie can do that and not every movie should do that as it is near impossible to be great all of the time, that is too much pressure to put on movie makers

Some movies, notably ones that are not Black Dynamite, do in fact need to take time to set up characters, plot points and pay offs for later parts of the movie and sometimes that can cause earlier parts of the movie or series to go slower. Setting things up can really slow down pacing, or cutting between sets, characters, etc. can pull the story to what feels like a halt, which again can be worth it if the proper pay-offs have proper pay-offs in the end. In the case of longer running franchises it may simply have to do with who is running the property and stuff that was set up by one writer or director used much better in later entries for better pay-offs, or in cases like the MCU new talent can recontextualize or reinvigorate a property like Guardians of the Galaxy for an example. And eventually you get to that point that the majority of things that are needed to be set up are in place, so now the story can just flow and things are grand for a period of time. Sometimes it just needs a bit of cook time to serve up a better dish is what I am saying, a bit of research to refine the perfect product, or proper time to have a fully realized reaction product (in real life I am a chemist so it is fun to work it in to these headers every so often).

Now all this being said, this week’s prompt is: What is a movie or franchise that had a rough start, but got better? It also counts in instances where something went on too long but came back around. Anything that had a rough patch but eventually got good, really good or even great in the long run ended up being worth the wait.
