The Avocado Weekly Movie Thread (01/20)

Movieacados! A movie is a vehicle for entertainment. The phrase refers to something that something that serves as a means, channel, or medium for providing amusement, enjoyment, or a message or any combination thereof (metaphorically speaking of course). TV Shows, comics, Youtube stuff all apply, but as this is the Weekly Movie Thread, we will ignore all other vehicles and concentrate on movie vehicles, or more specifically vehicles in movies that entertain us and of which are now officially established as vehicles for entertainment within vehicles for entertainment.

Setting a movie largely in a plane, train or automobile (or boat, spaceship or hot air balloon for that matter) allows film makers to up the stakes for drama and tension as they are enclosed spaces, but also can help keep the story on the rails so to speak. There are opportunities for innovative action set pieces, or factors outside the vehicle to effect what is happening inside. Creatively the limitations of the vehicle can be overcome if you are imaginative enough, and in doing so it can be turned into a real strength for the story. People love pleasant surprises (see the hopefully glowing comments from last week’s prompt), so if what they are seeing and hearing on screen manages to beat expectations then they will respond accordingly. All of this does not even get into the fact that movies do not need to be primarily set inside a specific vehicle, but could just largely incorporate vehicles into it’s story, for example the Batmobile (obviously I am referring to Adam West’s Batmobile, the pinnacle of all Batmobiles).

So all that being said for this week’s prompt please allow me take a second attempt at wordplay here: What is your favourite cinematic vehicle of entertainment vehicle? Either your favourite actual vehicle in the literal terms of naming names, or your favourite predominately vehicular setting for a movie will do and if you are feeling particularly ambitious both is good too it is entirely your choice. In retrospect I maybe should have split this up into two prompts but right now I am like 2-3 weeks ahead of the game so the good times can never end right?
