With 2026 underway, I’m trying to shift my feelings toward politics and events a bit after taking a year or so off from doing headers. I’ve got over 2,200 posts on the ‘Cado, and probably half of those are politics headers, so we’ll get back into the groove soon enough. Thanks to forget_it_jake for their work on Thursdays prior to this!
First up, there’s a lot of understandable emotion about the events yesterday in Minneapolis, but it’s important to remember that the Internet is (sort of) forever, and that there are rules about what can be posted, and you should always think “Do I want this read aloud in court?”
Today is noteworthy in history for a couple of reasons.
First, we get to go all the way back to 1790, when George Washington delivered the first State of the Union address. That’s a great bit of history, but it also reminds us that the worst person is going to be delivering a new one soon, and it’s going to be even more unhinged than before.
Also, way, way back in 1835, the US national debt was $0 for the first and only time in history. Time to just forgive our national debt?
