Movieacados! It is finally time for one of my favourite and possibly only remaining year end traditions: Favourite movies of the year. Due to my own and my family’s busy lifestyles I do not often get to enjoy things when they are released. Most shows I watch a year or two late and the same can be said for a lot of video games (but add another 1-2 years). But movies are different. I enjoy the theatrical experience and I love sharing movies with people so I often see a fair amount in the year of it’s release so when it comes to year end stuff this is definitely my wheelhouse.

So each year I try to make it a bit more challenging for myself. I do a top 5, not 10. Five is harder as it means I will eliminate probably at least five deserving movies that I do not want eliminated. Also I will only nominate 1 film from each genre so it doesn’t end up stacked with animated movies every year. Now, I do get a little creative with genres sometimes in order to fit my five movies in (Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse for example could fall under Animated, Superhero, or even Sci-Fi), but it still makes me think harder about what I want to highlight every year. I often do not rank the movies either as each one effects me differently, except most years I do have an out and out favourite movie that rises above all others. The only other rule is the release date. For me it does not count if the movie makes a debut at a film fest in 2024, if it releases to the public in theatres (even a very small theatrical release) it counts for that year.

So all that being said my prompt today is pretty easy What is your favourite movie list for 2025? You can use my rules as described above, or you can apply your own tradition/rules. This is a place to celebrate film and I don’t want to limit anyone’s celebrations so have fun and let us know what you liked this year (and if you are feeling extra generous, why you liked it).
