Here are today’s Second Chance contestants:

  • Jasmine Zhou, an ASIC engineer from Woodland, California;
  • Guy Branum, a writer and comedian from West Hollywood, California; and
  • Rachael Gray, a graduate student from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Jeopardy!

LET’S GET TO THE POINT // LITERARY LODGINGS // AS THE CROW FLIES // CUT FROM THE SAME CLOTH // “HOT” LINES // YOU SEEM TENSE

DD1 – 800 – LITERARY LODGINGS – Though it sounds possessive, the name of this country estate in an E.M. Forster title has no apostrophe (Guy doubled to 2,800.)

Scores at first break: Rachael 1,800, Guy 4,600, Jasmine 3,800.

Scores entering DJ: Rachael 4,600, Guy 6,200, Jasmine 6,000.

Double Jeopardy!

SHEDDING SOME LIGHT ON THE DARK AGES // CROSSWORD CLUES “U” // NEPO BABIES // PHILOSOPHERS // TOXIC CREATURES // YOU SEE TENTS

DD2 – 1,200 – SHEDDING SOME LIGHT ON THE DARK AGES – Around 900 the French king ceded to Rollo the Viking a large northern territory that became known as this duchy (With a narrow lead, Jasmine lost 7,600 on a true DD.)

DD3 – 2,000 – CROSSWORD CLUES “U” – All over the place (10 letters) (From third place with a chance to move to first, Jasmine dropped 6,800 on another true DD.)

Jasmine had a small lead when she went all-in on DD2 and missed, then she found DD3 from third with a chance to take the lead, bet it all and missed again. This allowed Guy to hold first into FJ at 9,400 vs. 8,600 for Rachael and 4,800 for Jasmine.

Final Jeopardy!

FRENCH LANDMARKS – Secularized during the revolution, this Latin Quarter building has a porch of columns & triangular pediment modeled on an ancient building

Guy and Jasmine were correct on FJ, with Guy adding 7,801 to win with 17,201.

Final scores: Rachael 8,600, Guy 9,400, Jasmine 4,800.

Triple Stumper of the day: For a top-row clue, no one knew the word meaning to vex someone mentally, or a very unexpected defeat in a big game, is upset.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is “Howards End”? DD2 – What is Normandy? DD3 – What is ubiquitous? FJ – What is the Panthéon?
