Here are today’s Second Chance contestants:
- Pete Johnston, a filmmaker & educator originally from Alma, Michigan;
- Dave Widmayer, a trivia host from Portland, Oregon; and
- Eugene Huang, a teacher from Paramus, New Jersey.
Jeopardy!
‘TIS THE SEASON // ART & ARTISTS // THE 14th CENTURY // NEW IN THE CAMBRIDGE DICTIONARY // CIVICS // BEFORE CHILDREN
DD1 – 800 – CIVICS – The 5th & 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution enshrine this 2-word guarantee of a fair trial (Pete lost 2,800 on a true DD.)
Scores at first break: Pete 2,800, Dave 3,000, Eugene 4,200.
Scores entering DJ: Pete 600, Dave 4,600, Eugene 6,000.
Double Jeopardy!
BODIES OF WATER // LITERARY AWARDS // THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL // USEFUL PLANTS // LAW & ORDER // BEFORE CHILDREN
DD2 – 2,000 – THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL – This American was a sensation at the Folies Bergère, dancing while wearing not much but a skirt ornamented with bananas (On the first clue of the round, Pete fell into the red, losing 2,000)
DD3 – 1,600 – BODIES OF WATER – Care to Gdansk? Then come on down to the mouth of this river, its country’s longest (Dave dropped 4,200 down to 4,000.)
All three DDs were missed and Eugene didn’t find any of them, so accordingly he had the lead into FJ at 12,000 vs. 7,400 for Pete and 4,000 for Dave.
Final Jeopardy!
U.S. PRESIDENTS – His mom Eliza, the first mother to attend her son’s inauguration, survived him by about 6 years; his wife, by 36
As we’ve seen this entire week, everyone was incorrect on FJ. Pete and Dave dropped to zero while Eugene lost half his score, so will have 6,000 added to his total for tomorrow’s game to determine the weekly winner.
Scores for game one: Pete 0, Dave 0, Eugene 6,000.
Triple Stumper of the day: For a top-row clue, no one could name the award from the Mystery Writers of America named for the “father of detective fiction”, the Edgars.
Correct Qs: DD1 – What is due process? DD2 – Who was Baker? DD3 – What is Vistula? FJ – Who was Garfield?
