Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! I’m surprised to see that I haven’t written about oyakodon (親子丼) here before, so let’s change that today. Oyakodon is a chicken and egg rice bowl, more or less. It also means parent and child (because…chicken and egg 😅). It’s super easy to make and a great comfort food, so I recommend you try it out some time! Of course, because everything comes back to &TEAM…Click Here to see Taki’s recipe! That’s right, Taki from &TEAM loves to cook and shared this adorable little book of some of his favorite dishes to make. His recipes are pretty sparse, so if it’s your first time making it I recommend referencing something like Just One Cookbook, although I definitely suggest following Taki’s lead and using lots of onions and caramelizing them before you add the chicken. If you’ve made oyakodon before, what are your techniques? I’ve never made it myself, but Ralph has, and it’s always delicious!
And, as always…
What have you been watching/reading/playing/eating/listening to lately?
Happy Wednesday! 🍙
