Part Four in a series entitled “Snail Tries to Clear Out his Header Topics Folder before the End of the Year”
Septentrion was an unusual computer game released in 1993 for the Super Famicom, later to be sold under the name S.O.S. in North America. A mixture of the film The Poseidon Adventure and the real life events of the sinking of the Titanic, it’s a survival adventure game where the player has a single real-time hour to escape a capsized luxury ship named the Lady Crithania before it sinks.

They can choose from one of four characters to play, and which out of seven other characters to save (not 2,300 as claimed in the above advertisement). As the timer runs down, the ship begins rolling and so does the screen as the player tries to platform their way out. With multiple paths to take and different endings depending upon your choices, the game held a lot of replay value, especially for one in that era of gaming. If you have an hour to kill there are plenty of grisly playthroughs available online for your viewing pleasure.
A sequel was released solely in Japan on the Sony PlayStation in 1999, titled Septentrion: Out of the Blue.
Enjoy your day and take care of yourselves in and out of water, people!
