Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! One of the many J-drama I watched recently was Takahashi-san from the Bike Shop (自転車屋さんの高橋くん). It’s a very sweet slice-of-life romance based on an ongoing manga by Arare Matsumushi (松虫あられ). The manga started releasing in English this year, and it’s been on my to-read list for a while, so I was curious to check out the live-action to get a sample of the story. And I loved it so much! It definitely feels like there’s a lot more to the manga, but it was still a very enjoyable watching experience. Now I’m more motivated than ever to pick up the manga.
The story focuses on office worker Hanno Tomoko and a local bicycle repairman Takahashi Ryohei. I don’t want to give too much away because it’s a fun story to experience on your own.
And, as always…
What have you been watching/reading/playing/eating/listening to lately?
Happy Wednesday! 🍙
