Let’s hear it! Anything and everything music-related goes here.

This week’s discussion prompt: Bands named after songs by other bands

There are quite a few bands that fit this prompt. One of my favorites is Eric’s Trip, a band from Moncton, New Brunswick formed in 1990 and named after the fifth track from Sonic Youth’s 1988 album Daydream Nation. Eric’s Trip were active from 1990 to 1996, releasing three albums on Sub Pop (the first Canadian band to be signed to the label) plus numerous singles and EPs during that time; the band reunited briefly in 2001 and again from 2006 to 2009. Members Rick White and Marc Gaudet went on to form Elevator to Hell with Tara, Julie Doiron went on to have a successful solo career, and Chris Thompson went on to perform as Moon Socket. Thompson currently plays in the bands The Memories Attack and Diamondtown, Gaudet currently plays in Funeral Fog, and White has three solo albums (and produced two of Doiron’s solo albums). And in addition to their legacy as Canadian indie rock pioneers, the band and many of their spin-offs are popular among Dutch millennials for some reason!

As always, any and all music-related posts are welcome. Have fun, and rock out with yr guac out!
