The Avocado Weekly Movie Thread (07/22)

This week sees the Smurfs returning to theatres for another go at it while Superman continues to fly high. I will not be commenting too much on the viability or quality of Smurf franchise movies because instead I was thinking about this franchise, how it went away for awhile and then came back. A lot of us myself included lament the lack of original content in our cinematic existences and personally I am usually drawn more towards original works in theatres. But on the flip side There are a lot of good movies that are remakes, reboots, revivals, reimaginings, and even re-releases (I mean, most importantly they often make money). And there are even good reasons to see these in the various iterations, even speaking as one who, as mentioned above, frequently champions the need for new content.

A remake could add fresh perspective to a movie, it could correct mistakes or deal with problematic content in the original in a much better manner. A revival could mean that either creators, or some creative type had an idea for a fresh approach to an old or stagnant property. Reboots/reimaginings are ways to modernize a property that if done right can capture both the spirit of the original for a whole new audience. And finally a re-release is a way for a movie nerd such as myself to see movies from ‘before my time’ on a big screen. Bonus points if paired with something similar.

Realizing that I am pressed for life time now and have to wrap this up a little faster (the re-release of this prompt will have special edition bonus content). Whichever method you go for and as much as I harp on it franchises continuing and coming back to the big screen can be a fun time at the movies so this weeks prompt is simple: What is your favourite movie coming back experience? All of the methods listed above count as do long time coming sequels and pretty much anything you can properly justify (actors/directors returning also counts).
