Sharing a post shared by Headphone Princess in the PT yesterday: Chicago Fire Fans Protest At Soldier Field After Supporters Banned Over Anti-ICE Sign
Soldier Field’s supporter section at Chicago Fire games is typically raucous, with overlapping chants and live music.
But at Saturday’s game, sections 121 and 122 were unusually quiet as die-hard fans stood with their backs turned to the field for the first 15 minutes of the match in protest of the club’s front office.
Specifically, the fans were protesting a one-year ban from Fire home games that were handed down to three fans who displayed an anti-ICE, or Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, banner at a recent game.
The fans who received bans were members of Sector Latino, a fan group that has long held a major presence at Fire games. Members of Sector Latino said their protest was meant to “[turn] our backs on the organization that turned their backs on us,” said Daniel Flores, a trumpeter and Sector Latino leader who helped organize Saturday’s demonstration.
