Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! Today I want to feature one of my favorite live-action series I watched this year,「好きやねんけどどうやろか」(Sukiyanen Kedo Dou Yaro ka). The series has two of my favorite things: romance and Japanese food! The main character, the owner of a small restaurant in Osaka, falls for an office worker who moves to the area from Tokyo. I really loved watching these characters get to know one another, and of course, eat lots of delicious food. The supporting characters are really fun too. The main character’s best friend is particularly great. Is there a lot of drama that keeps the couple apart for dubious reasons? Sure. Is there the threat of exes returning to cause havoc constantly looming over them? Yes. Did the sudden arrival of a romantic rival appear at the worst possible time? Of course. And I loved every second of it! This series probably isn’t for everyone, but if you’re looking for something cute, funny, and a little over the top, then I recommend it!
