Ballsack’s J-Pop Midlife Crisis, pt. 11: 石川さゆり

Starting sometime last year, I started really getting into Japanese music. This came as a bit of a surprise to me, because I had always thought I hated singing in Japanese. Turns out I don’t! In the night threads for the following week, I’ll write a little about each of my favorite artists that I’ve discovered, and share a streaming album for you to dutifully ignore.

『365日恋もよう・花供養』 (365-nichi koi mo yō hanakuyō) by Sayuri Ishikawa (石川さゆり) is another album highly rated on RYM’s Enka chart. And another one, unfortunately, that isn’t available streaming. I don’t know much about Ishikawa, though she’s obviously fairly prolific looking at her Discogs page, which has 38 albums up through the 2010s. Anyway, this is a lovely album. I bought it from some discogs store in Bulgaria, and the sleeve came in rough shape (though it still had the Obi on it), and the record is warped as hell. Doesn’t sound that bad, though, so that’s good.
