30 Day RPG challenge day 7: Best and worst RPG Party

Welcome to the 30 Day challenge of November which is going to be all about Role Playing Games of all shapes and sizes, whether produced in Japan or USA, tactical or real-time and more.

Sometimes RPG’ing means adventuring by your lonesome, othertimes it means questing with a Party. This can consist of childhood friends, former enemies and dudes you just stumbled across on your way, and often contains characters more endearing than the nominal protagonist.
So, whether the gang is a tight-knit little group or a Suikoden-sized horde, the main prompt of the day is: Whats your overall favorite RPG party? Who are its MVPs? And what are the biggest duds, or most underwhelming/unexplored?

“Urgh, this guy…” prompt: Biggest gap being super useful and actual character appeal? Any otherwise useful characters you fully avoided due to them being unnapealing?

…But I love them!” prompt: Who’s the party member you keep around despite them being subpar or inefficient, simply due to liking them?

General Leo Prompt: Briefly playable characters who should’ve stuck around? And fully unplayable supporting characters who should’ve joined?
