If people feel that they meaningfully experience the identity of being a person of color, then they are welcome to participate.)
Hello Y’all.
I felt it might be worth creating an Emergency CotL thread in light of recent events & a place to discuss the election, right as we enter into the last week.
By now we’ve all heard about the MSG event & the jokes (one of which could very well turn the tide of an election) which lest we forget, apparently included watermelon references, antisemitism & misogyny 1… everyone but dumb as fuck MAGA white people (because they can obviously take a “joke”).
Anyways, I thought this a nice image to feature:
Statehood or Independence: whatever they want, but it’s long past time?
I’m a Brit & I fear even i know more about Puerto Rico than most MAGA do?
Not that Britain isn’t without fault, given recent news:
There’s no education in schools here in the UK around this subject, I can tell you. Isn’t ignorance wonderful /s.
I don’t believe much will be done about the collapsing crisis in Gaza & West Bank (let alone the nightmares of what’s happening in Haiti or Sudan), but I’m reminded that we no longer have any Arab or Muslim commentators here since the events of October 7th. The reasoning (if I recall correctly – apologies if not) was the genuine fear that their family in Palestine were in danger…
The commentor in question wasn’t American, but imagine being asked to vote to send 2000 pound bombs to kill your own family. Fucking crazy. The crisis continues to spiral out of control 2 as Israel bans the UN refugee agencies trying to bring food into the starving peoples hands.3 BANNING THE UN!?!
Obviously it all makes sense when you understand why Israel is doing what it’s doing. What doesn’t make sense is Biden & the U.S. governments actions…
An important reminder about why not voting isn’t a simple solution, but the notion of democracy (& certainly justice) feels very flimsy in my mind given recent events. Also the joke that is independent media (good job Bezos = 250k WaPo subscribers lost & counting) & all the insane “Sanewashing” going on:
Still there is no escaping how badly things will go (& have been going), with Trump’s Supreme Courts actions (and a possible Project 2025 government), in terms of healthcare for women: especially of colour.
In the end, it may very well be Women of Colour who’ll save the U.S.
A Separate, but related interesting analysis:
Speaking of the far right not being allowed to tell racist jokes, this recent incident had been brought to my attention (after I linked Mehdi in last weeks CotL) :
I’ve noticed CNN tends to invite on right-wing fools to argue “the other side” of an issue & now they’ve had to ban a guest, who was “telling a joke!”
Anyways, feel free to vent or talk about whatever ails ya. Maybe (prompt) how right-wing jokes suck.
