New(-ish) Music

Foxing – Foxing

Foxing is such an interesting band to me. They’ve been making huge, interesting rock albums that have been well crafted as albums since at least when I started listening to them with Nearer My God. They’ve mostly shaken the emo from their sound, but I guess without a better way to categorize them still keep the label. Each album also feels like they’re taking a new swing at something, and this one’s pretty interesting: what if we surprised the hell out of you when you least expect it with screaming all over the album? What if we frequently distorted the drums and guitar to absolute hell until they go from crushing to an ambient buzz? Unsurprisingly it works incredibly well for me. This album really pushes into the soft/harsh dynamic well, it’s a lot to take in at almost an hour but it’s an incredibly interesting and loud album. It reminds me personally of hearing Sunbather for the first time and wishing I liked it.
